The nursery office is a fully equipped mobile home and it will be open 24 hours a day. Should it rain or you choose to sleep under cover, there are several out-buildings on the property. Some of these buildings house our animals which include horses, goats and wallabies.
Due to the nature of wallabies, we prefer that you leave your dogs at home. If you do bring your dog, please keep it on leash.
The bamboo tour will take place in the nursery's display garden. There's about 90 varieties of bamboo in the ground. Most of which are full-sun runners, and the oldest have been in the ground since 2004. The highlight of the tour is the moso (Phyllostachys edulis 'Spring Beauty') grove which is sizing up nicely. The grove was started from a 1 gallon plant purchased and planted in 1998, grown in a cold frame the next 4 years, and then divided and moved to its current location in 2004. It now occupies about 3000 sq. ft.
If you enjoy the unusual, there're both a bifurcated and a double branched (branches on both sides of each node) incense bamboo (Phyllostachys atrovaginata) culm.
If there is interest, there will be a tour of our solar energy projects. The nursery irrigation system is powered by the sun using a 4.5 kw PV array atop the horse barn. The house's domestic hot water and radiant floor heating are heated by panels on the top of the house.
The pot luck dinner will start at 4 PM for those who need to travel home that evening. The nursery will provide hamburgers and hot dogs for the grill. We will also provide soft drinks. If you want to bring something that needs preparation, there are kitchens in the house and the office, plus the grill and a propane powered smoker.
If you have chairs, please bring them along.
